Swartz; in: Maledicta, Vol. 10, 1988-1989; Reinhold Aman Editor: "The reference to the abused person's mother's genitals is the commonest insult in Swahili culture, and the same phrase is used by some Swahili—mainly women and children or young men—as an all-purpose exclamation of surprise, annoyance, and pain. The phrase comes in three forms (kuma nyoko, kuma nina, kuma mayo), all of which use the same word kuma, referring to the cunt, but which differ according to the words used for "mother," with two of them using obscure or archaic words for that parent, and the third and strongest (kuma mayo) using an ordinary word. One of the archaic words for "mother," nyoko, itself is a very mild exclamation when used in the isolation from the unusual gynecological companion word, kuma.
